Media Release Cash Rate Total Return Index

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has commenced publishing a Cash Rate Total Return Index (TRI), which members of the public can use as a benchmark with a risk-free rate of return. The TRI measures the performance of an investment earning the Cash Rate, where interest is reinvested.

The introduction of the TRI is consistent with the Financial Stability Board's recommendation that near risk-free reference rates be developed.

The TRI will be published along with the Cash Rate on market data services (Reuters RBA30 and Bloomberg RBAO7) prior to 9.30am AEST/AEDT on each day that the Reserve Bank Information and Transfer System (RITS) is open for interbank settlement. Historical data for the TRI is available on the Reserve Bank's website in Statistical Table F1. The calculation methodology for the TRI is also available on the Reserve Bank's website.
