Work Experience at the Reserve Bank of Australia

The Reserve Bank's Head Office in Sydney offers work experience for Year 10 high school students. A new program has been developed and is designed to give students insight into the work of economists.

During the one-week program, students will learn about the roles and functions of the nation's central bank and how to interpret economic graphs, as well as shadowing one of the Bank's economists as they complete a series of core activities.

Applications for the November 2019 Work Experience program will be open from 11–20 September 2019.

The Bank is committed to equal opportunity and places will be offered to students from different backgrounds and school types. (While the Bank will consider applications from students outside Sydney, it will not provide accommodation or travel assistance.)

How to apply

Applications are to be made through the online application form. Please note that we will not accept applications via email or post.

On the application form, students will be asked to write (in no more than 300 words) the reason for their interest in economics and why they would like to participate in work experience at the Reserve Bank. Successful applicants will demonstrate sound written communication and be able to clearly articulate the reasons for their interest in economics.

Applications also require a written endorsement from the student's teacher (email or scanned letter, converted to .doc or .pdf) of no more than 100 words, explaining why they feel the student would be suitable for this opportunity. This can be uploaded to the form.
