Media Release Senior Appointment
The Reserve Bank today announced the appointment of Dr Malcolm Edey as Assistant Governor (Economic). This important role oversees the economics function of the Bank, and is responsible for economic analysis and research, and policy advice to the Governor and the Board.
Dr Edey, 42, graduated from the University of Sydney with First Class Honours in 1980. He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics, and has a strong record of published research in several fields of applied economics, including monetary policy, financial markets, and saving and superannuation.
He has extensive policy-related experience over the past decade at senior levels. He became deputy department head in the Economic Analysis Department of the Bank in 1991, before being seconded to the Economics Department of the OECD for three years from 1992 to 1995. Since then, he has headed successively Economic Research, Economic Analysis and Domestic Markets Departments.
