Media Release RBA Economics Competition 2010
The Reserve Bank of Australia today launches its annual Economics Competition in conjunction with the UNSW Economics Society. The competition is for Australian university students and challenges them to examine important and topical economic issues affecting Australia.
The essay topic for this year is Australia's Real Exchange Rate. Essays should briefly discuss the appreciation of the real exchange rate over the past decade or so, identify the likely causes of this and analyse its economic implications for Australia.
The competition is open to citizens and permanent residents of Australia who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited Australian university. The prizes for first and second place are $1,500 and $750, respectively. There is also a prize of $500 for the best essay from a first-year student. Entries must be submitted by Friday, 20 August 2010.
For all enquiries about the competition, including detailed information about the rules, submission guidelines and prizes, students should visit the UNSW Economics Society website.
