Media Release RBA/ESA Essay Competition Awards 2012

The Reserve Bank is pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 RBA/ESA Economics Competition for Australian undergraduate university students. The essay competition was run in conjunction with the Economic Society of Australia (ESA) and the UNSW Economics Society.

Students were asked to discuss the sources of growth in the Chinese economy and the implications for Australia. The winners' entries stood out among the essays that were submitted by students from ten different universities across Australia. Congratulations go to:

  • First prize ($2,000): Sidney Powell, The University of Adelaide
  • Second prize ($1,000): Andrew O'Connor, University of New South Wales
  • Best essay from a first year student ($500): Minna Featherstone, Australian National University

These prizes will be presented at a ceremony at the Reserve Bank of Australia in Sydney in October.
