Submissions on Strategic Review of Innovation in the Payments System

The Reserve Bank launched the formal consultation phase of its Strategic Review of Innovation in the Payments System on 30 June 2011. The objective of the Review is to identify areas in which innovation in the Australian payments system may be improved through more effective co-operation between stakeholders and regulators. To support the consultation process, the Bank released a paper, ‘Strategic Review of Innovation in the Payments System: Issues for Consultation’, which discusses the desirable attributes of payment systems, trends and developments in the Australian payments system, and potential gaps in the Australian payments system that might need to be filled through innovation over the next five to ten years. The paper also sets out some early views and priorities, and identifies a number of questions for discussion. Comments on these questions and issues were sought from interested parties by 31 August 2011.
