The 1998 conference was organised jointly with the Australian National University's Centre for Economic Policy Research. A range of notable academic and policy economists, both from Australia and overseas, took part in the conference. Of the papers presented, one was prepared by members of the Bank's Economic Group, while three were written by distinguished international economists, Professor Lawrence Katz of Harvard University, Professor Richard Jackman of the London School of Economics, and John Martin, Deputy Director of the OECD's Directorate for Education, Employment, Labour and Social Affairs. The remaining papers were written by prominent Australian economists with expertise in labour market issues.
