Reserve Bank of Australia Annual Report – 1980 Staff

The Board records its appreciation of the high standard of efficiency and continuous effort maintained by the staff throughout a year of increased activity and recurring pressures.

Staff numbered 3,648 at 30 June 1980, an increase of 83 over the 12 months. This followed reductions of 57 and 24 in 1977/78 and 1978/79 respectively. A comparison of staff numbers by function and location, over the past three years, is shown below.

The figures for 30 June 1980 include a total of 160 officers on long-service, confinement, maternity and other extended leave; a further 17 were on secondment to other organisations in Australia and overseas. Of those on secondment overseas, 6 were with the Bank of Papua New Guinea. During the year,others commenced or continued secondments with the Asian Development Bank,the Solomon Islands Monetary Authority, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington and, through the IMF, with the Monetary Authority of Swaziland, the Nepal Rastra Bank, and the Monetary Authority of the Maldives. Mr J.S. Mallyon, a Chief Manager of the Bank, is a member of the Committee of Inquiry into the Australian Financial System. Three officers have been seconded to the Secretariat of the Committee.
